It is a contrabass of his invention that can be used in the conventional or electrified way, this last modality of which is a clear and early exponent since the beginning of the 70s.

His works, often with a melancholic air, are usually based on simple patterns (often ostinati), but they present a high-level organization in their color and pay close attention to the musical intensity.

From the early 60’s to the 70’s, his main musical association was with the pianist Wolfgang Dauner. His works were varied: jazz from the mainstream to avant-garde experiments, including jazz-rock. In that stage, he also did concerts and recorded with the pianists Hampton Hawes and Mal Waldron, the guitarists Baden Powell de Aquino and Joe Pass, the orchestra of Mike Gibbs and the violinist Stéphane Grappelli.

He published the first album under his name, “Colors of Chloë” (ECM 1042), in 1973, and since then he has published another 10, all on that same label. The association with ECM also led him to work with other artists from that same house, such as Gary Burton (“Ring” in 1974 and “Passengers” in 1976), Ralph Towner (“Solstice” in 1974 and “Sound and Shadows” in 1977). ), Pat Metheny (“Watercolors” in 1977) and Jan Garbarek (9 albums from 1978 to 1998).

In the mid-70s, he formed his own group, Colors , with Charlie Mariano (soprano saxophone, flutes), Rainer Brüninghaus (piano, synthesizer) and Jon Christensen (drums). After the quartet’s first album, “Yellow Fields” (1975), Christensen was replaced by John Marshall, who had been part of Soft Machine. The group Colors carried out a good touring round and recorded two more albums, “Silent Feet” (1977) and “Little Movements” (1980), before breaking up.

Since the early 80s, Weber has often worked with British singer / songwriter Kate Bush: she has lent her art with double bass on four of the artist’s last five studio albums: “The Dreaming” (1982) , “Hounds of Love” (1985), “The Sensual World” (1989) and “Aerial” (2005).

Throughout the same decade, he went on tours with Barbara Thompson’s jazz-rock group Paraphernalia. He has also been a member of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble.

Since the beginning of the 90s, the frequency of his concerts and his recordings has decreased considerably (only two albums to his name have been released since 1990). With everything and that, his recording “Endless Days”, 2001, is perhaps the most successful of the interactions between classical music and jazz, a true epitome of the so-called chamber jazz. His main concert activity at this stage has been as a member of the Jan Garbarek group. The last album released in the name of Eberhard Weber is “Stages of a Long Journey”, a collection of live recordings made in March 2005 on the occasion of his 65th birthday in which he can be heard with Gary Burton, Wolfgang Dauner, Jan Garbarek and the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Stuttgart.

In June 2007, the public was informed that Eberhard Weber had suffered a stroke. Today, he is unable to touch.

He was awarded the Albert Mangelsdorff prize in November 2009. That same month, the ECM house published a box with the discs of Colors of the 70s.
