Douwe Bob Posthuma (born Amsterdam, The Netherlands, December 12, 1992) is a Dutch singer-songwriter, musician and composer. He is known for winning in 2012 the talent contest De beste singer-songwriter van Nederland (“The best voice of the Netherlands”) and be the representative of the Netherlands in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

Douwe Bob’s Biography

Born in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, on December 12, 1992. His father is Simón Posthuma (Seemon), who is known to have belonged to the group of designers “The Fool”, who revolutionized throughout the country the fashion of the 60s. His passion for the world of music reached him at the age of six, which was when he began to play the piano, initially focusing on classical music and jazz. After his fourteen years he also began to play the guitar, to sing and to compose, inspired by folk, country and pop music from the 1950s to the mid-1970s.

After the passage of several years, in 2012 he won the first season of the newly released talent show “The best voice of the Netherlands”, issued by the Omroepvereniging VARA and presented by Giel Beelen. In this program he was able to sing the songs that he himself had composed: Standing here helpless, Icarus and in the grand finale Multicolour Angels, sung in the company of the musicians of Tim Knol’s band and the song after playing on television managed to be in the position number 17 for four weeks on the weekly list of the best singles, Dutch Top 40. After becoming known, that summer he was called to perform at the prestigious festivals Sziget-Festival in Budapest and the Songbird Festival in Rotterdam.

On May 3, 2013 he already released his first debut album, entitled “Born In a Storm” (in Spanish: “Born in a Storm”) released by the label Rodeo Media BV, whose vast majority of songs were written during your holiday in Morocco, with the musician Matthijs van Duijvenbode. This album achieved a great reception from the public, reaching number 7 for 23 weeks in the MegaCharts lists, during which time he toured all over the country presenting his album and was also one of the participants in the Festival of Pinkpop and repeating in those of Budapest and Rotterdam. At the end of the year he appeared in the documentary “Whatever Forever”, in which he spoke with Linda Hakeboom and Rolf Hartogensis, of his father Simón Posthuma, even reaching the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Already in 2014, along with rapper Gers Pardoel and the band Kensington were the ambassadors of the annual festival of the Liberation Day of the Netherlands, arriving that day to perform in all the cities of the country: Leeuwarden, Groningen, Assen, Zwolle , Almere, Amsterdam, Haarlem, The Hague, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Flushing, Bolduque, Roermond and Wageningen, which were moved by helicopter so that they could perform in all cities on the same day.

In that same year he changed his label after signing a contract with Universal Music Group (UMG), with which on May 15, 2015 he released his second album titled “Pass It On” (“Pass it On”), Which includes the single “Hold Me” in collaboration with the singer Anouk Teeuwe and was ranked No. 2. This new album achieved a great sales success, reaching number one. 1 for a total of twenty weeks.

On September 22, 2015, he was elected, by internal decision of the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep, representative of the Netherlands at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

In March 2016, in an interview with OUTTV, Bob declared that he is bisexual.

He was nominated in the category for Best Dutch Artist of the MTV Europe Music Awards 2016 (MTV EMAs), which was held on November 6 at the Ahoy Rotterdam.

He has recently been announced as the new Speaker to give the Netherlands ratings in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
