Dorian Andrew Mientjez Yates (born April 19, 1962 in Sutton Coldfield England) is a professional bodybuilder who won six consecutive times in the Mr. Olympia competition from 1992 to 1997.
Dorian Yates’s Biography
His reign as Mr. Olympia ended when he retired, forced in large part by the accumulation of injuries; Yates suffered a tear of biceps and triceps, the latter being only three weeks before his last participation in the Olympia, which he won in 1997. His professional record when retiring included 15 wins and 2 second places.
It is considered that Yates revolutionized bodybuilding training, just like other bodybuilders who have dominated the sport for many years, such as Lee Haney.
He is an advocate of Mike Mentzer’s training style known as HIT “High Intensity Training.” However, interviews with Yates and his published routines show that in practice he modified the application of Mentzer’s theories considerably. . The HIT system advocates several different exercises and very few series for each muscle group. Mentzer believed that stimulating the muscle to grow could be triggered in a short period of time by applying enough intensity, instead of training for long periods of time.
In 1994 Dorian joined the California corporation “Heavy Duty Inc.” along with Mike Mentzer and Ray Mentzer.
