In the following year, John Hartman, one of the founders of the formation, leaves the group, as well as the guitarist Jeff Baxter.

Starting with the One Step Closer LP of 1980, the line-up would include: Pat Simmons (guitar and vocals), Tiran Porter (bass), Keith Knudsen (drums), Michael McDonald (keyboards and vocals), John McFee ( guitar and voice), Cornelius Bumpus (saxophone, organ and voice) and Chet McCraken (drums and percussion). In 1982 the dissolution of the group was announced, although they would be reunited later.
