Donald Campbell Maclean (Valparaíso, 1919 – Berlin, September 12, 1944) was a Chilean rugby player who served as a center.
Donald played for the Condors and is considered one of the best players in history that gave his country. His older brother Ian Campbell, was also a prominent player and since 2012 both are members of the World Rugby Hall of Fame.
His father was Colin Campbell, a soccer player born in Peru of Scottish descent who played for Argentina and Chile.
Donald started playing rugby at his school, the St. Peters School in Valparaíso where he also excelled in football and cricket but preferred the sport played by gentlemen.
In 1941 he was recruited by the British Armed Forces, entering the Royal Air Force that year and on September 12, 1944 he was shot down on German soil during an operation, he was 24 years old.
Interestingly, he suffered the same fate as his compatriot Prince Alexander Obolensky, another young rugby promise of the time, both of whom died at the same age and in World War II.
