Tijs Michiel Verwest (born Breda, The Netherlands, January 17, 1969) is a Dutch DJ and producer. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto or simply as Tiësto , an alias that comes from his childhood nickname .

He started playing music since 1984, and in 1994 he started releasing record material under the pseudonyms of Da Joker and Dj Limited. He made the series Forbidden Paradise as DJ Tiësto; in 1997 he founded the Black Hole Recordings label together with Arny Bink, under which the Magik Muzik and In Search Of Sunrise series were released in CD format. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella and also created the track Sparkles of which several remixes were made. In the year 2000, he released the compilation album Summerbreeze and his mixed version of “Silence” for Delerium, with Sarah McLachlan, exposed him to a more conventional audience. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory, which gave him several important shoves to his career.

Just after releasing his second studio album: 3 Just Be in 2004, at the 2004 Olympics he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, becoming the first DJ to play live on stage Olympic Games. The themes he made especially for the Olympic Games are mixed and released as the compilation of mixes The Parade Of The Athletes. He was appointed Officer of the Orange-Nassau Order in 2004 by Queen Beatrix. He was elected as the official ambassador of the Dance4Life Foundation in May 2006, and he released the song “Dance4Life” with Maxi Jazz to help spread awareness about HIV / AIDS. In April 2007, Tiësto premiered her radio show Tiësto’s Club Life on Radio 538 in the Netherlands and released her third studio album entitled Elements of Life. The album reached number one on the Dutch album list and the “Billboard Top Electronic Albums” in the US. and received a Grammy nomination in 2008. Tiësto released his fourth studio album called Kaleidoscope in October 2009. Tiësto was the best DJ in 2002 according to the DJ Mag magazine, a title he would repeat in 2003 and 2004. Since then Tiësto has ranked 2nd in the ranking except in 2006 when he finished 3rd, which he repeated in 2010 and 2011. In the 2014 DJ Mag poll he ranked 5th. In September 2009 he released a Kaleidoscope remix album. In 2010 he held his world tour where he has achieved the record “154 concerts in 14 months” something that no DJ has done, at the end of 2010 Tiësto released a collection called “Magikal Journey – The Hits Collection 1998-2008” and an album of Kaleidoscope remixes called “Kaleidoscope Remixed”. In 2009, he founded his new record label Musical Freedom (sub-label of Spinnin ‘Records), in which he edits all his works currently. In April 2011, he launches a new series of compilations called “Club Life: Volume One (Las Vegas)”. Name due to a series of concerts throughout the year he has done at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. The songs were chosen based on the best songs played in their concerts. Immediately after, the “Club Life World Tour” tour began, which included concerts all over the world, especially America and Canada. That same year he released his fifth studio album through his pseudonym Allure called Kiss From The Past with the participation of artists like Emma Hewitt, Christian Burns, and Jes among others. In 2012 he published the second part of Club Life and made reference to one of his favorite cities, Miami. In 2013 he continued with the Club Life series and this time referring to the great Swedish city, Stockholm. In 2014 he released A Town Called Paradise, his sixth studio album, with the participation of artists such as Hardwell, Matthew Koma, Firebeatz, Icona Pop and Krewella among others.

In 2015, he won the Grammy Award for best recording remixed for his version of “All of Me” by John Legend.

In 2016, he gets another new recognition from the Dutch Academy with the Edison Award for all his contribution to current music, one of the oldest awards in the music industry if not the most.
