Demián Bichir Nájera (Mexico City, Mexico, August 1, 1963) is a Mexican film and television actor. In 2012, he became the second Mexican actor to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in A Better Life.
Demian Bichir’s Biography
Son of Alejandro Bichir and Maricruz Nájera, Demián is brother of the also actors Odiseo Bichir and Bruno Bichir. He studied, along with his brothers, in the Francisco Medina Ascencio elementary school, in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico.
Her career, focused mainly on film and television, began with small roles in several telenovelas, while appearing in some films such as Rojo amanecer, Miroslava or La vida coniugal. He doubled, in the Latin American version, characters such as Louis and Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid (1989), the protagonist of the same name as Aladdin (1992) or Tulio on the Road to El Dorado (2000). Then he shot Mexican movies like Cilantro and Parsley, Sexo, Modesty and Tears and All Power. In 2008 he would put himself under the command of Steven Soderbergh to play Fidel Castro in Che, the Argentinean and Che: Guerrilla.
In TV Azteca he participated in soap operas like Nada personal and Too much corazon. In Bolivia, he filmed the movie American visa, directed by Juan Carlos Valdivia, where he played the character of Mario. With Argos Productions he made the miniseries Zapata: amor en rebeldía, where he played the Mexican caudillo.
On January 24, 2012, Bichir received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role as Carlos Galindo, a Mexican immigrant who works in the United States and lives with his teenage son, role in the film A better life. Bichir thus became the second Mexican interpreter to achieve an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Actor, after those achieved by Anthony Quinn in 1952 and 1956.
In 2013, Bichir obtained the role of co-star, alongside Diane Kruger, in the American series The Bridge.
