She is best known for her romantic novels such as Danielle Steel . He has sold more than 530 million copies of his books (as of 2005). His novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 390 consecutive weeks and twenty-one have been adapted for television.

Steel started writing stories when she was a child, and in her youth she wrote poetry. Graduated from the French Lyceum in New York, class of 1965, she went to study at the University of New York and Europe. At the age of eighteen he finished his first novel, which he did not publish until 1973.

In addition to his adult novels, Steel has written the series “Max and Martha” for children. He has also written four books dedicated to “Freddie” about real situations in the daily lives of children, like the first night away from home. Steel has published a book of poetry and also two nonfiction books: Having a Baby and His Bright Light (the last one dedicated to the life and death of his son Nicholas Traina). Nicholas, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, committed suicide in 1997.

As a result of his own dysfunctional family, Steel focuses his interest on the welfare of children and has raised nine children of his own. She has been married five times and is currently divorced. Their husbands have been Claude-Eric Lazard, Danny Zugelder, William Toth, John Traina, and Tom Perkins.

He married at eighteen and had a daughter. It was followed by a brief second marriage with a convicted rapist, and she soon found herself pregnant without being married to her second child, the heroin addict William Toth. She married him shortly before giving birth to his son, whom he called Nicholas, but they divorced soon after.

He married for the fourth time with John Traina, who already had two children of his own. Traina adopted Nick and gave him his last name. With John Traina, Steel had four daughters and a son, but the marriage also ended in divorce. His fifth marriage, with Silicon Valley financier Tom Perkins, lasted less than two years, ending in 1999. In 2006, Perkins dedicated his novel “Sex and the Single Zillionaire” to Steel.

In 2002 the French government honored Danielle Steel as Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for the contribution of her entire career to the world of culture.

In 2003, Steel opened an art gallery in San Francisco, where he lives, to exhibit the paintings and sculptures of young artists. He also maintains a residence in France, where he spends several months a year. It has German, Jewish and Portuguese ancestry.
