Carnegie was a promoter of what is now known as assumption of responsibility, although this only appears punctually in his writings. One of the central ideas of his books is that it is possible to change the behavior of others if we change our attitude towards them.
Dale Carnegie’s Biography
He was born in 1888 in Maryville, Missouri and was the second child of James William and Amanda Elizabeth Carnegie. He grew up on a farm and, in his youth, worked in the field while studying at the State Teacher’s College in Warrensburg, where he graduated as a school teacher. During his studies, he received a Wesleyan influence in his thinking, thanks to his professor Roberth Art, who helped him to know the feeling of humane treatment. His first job after college was as a seller of correspondence courses for ranchers. He later became a bacon, soap and butter salesman for Armor & amp; Company He was so successful that he made his area, South Omaha, the national sales leader for the company.
Dale Carnegie changed the diction of his maternal surname from “Carnegey” to Carnegie, at a time when businessman Andrew Carnegie was widely revered and recognized, in a successful marketing maneuver.
Carnegie’s first marriage ended in divorce in 1931. On November 5, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he married Dorothy Price Vanderpool, also divorced. He had two daughters, Rosemary, from his first marriage and Donna Dale, from the second.
He died of Hodgkin’s disease and was buried in Belton Cemetery in Cass County, Missouri.
