Cynthia Weil’s Biography

Weil was born in New York, into a Jewish conservative family, and his father, Morris Weil, was the owner of a furniture store and the son of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants. Her mother, Dorothy Méndez, was of Sephardic origin.Weil prepared to be an actress and a dancer, but soon discovered her ability to write songs that led her to collaborate with Barry Mann, with whom she married in August 1961.
