Cuba Gooding Jr. (New York, January 2, 1968) is an American actor, winner of the Oscar award in 1997 for his performance in the Jerry Maguire film and with numerous leading roles in films They call me Radio, Men of Honor or Pearl Harbor, among others.

Cuba Gooding Jr.’s Biography

He was born in the Bronx (New York), on January 2, 1968. Son of singer Shirley Sullivan and Cuba Gooding, Sr., singer of the group The Main Ingredient, with whom he had great success with the theme Everybody Plays the Fool (1972), which allowed him to change the life of his family and move to Los Angeles, where Gooding Jr. grew up.

At age 16 he made his debut as a breakdancer in a performance by Lionel Richie at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He subsequently starred in a school production and on the Hill Street Blues series. Since he was not as good as he thought, he decided to study acting.

After appearing in advertisements and in some other series, such as in a chapter of the Macgyver series “The Black Rhinoceros”, his first appearance in the cinema was in The Prince of Zamunda (1988), with Eddie Murphy. < / p>

In 1990, John Singleton chose him for the main role of his debut feature Los chicos del barrio (Boyz’N the Hood, 1991), which focuses on a group of young black people who are confronting drugs and crime. That was Cuba’s first success. He starred Outbreak (1995) along with Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey and Rene Russo. He became known worldwide when Cameron Crowe included him as a supporting actor in Jerry Maguire (1996), a great commercial success that made him a popular figure and that made him an Oscar winner for best supporting actor.

He also made a series of advertisements for Pepsi and the movie Chill factor, in which he plays an ice cream man who must protect a military secret with the help of a chef.

In the film Pearl Harbor (2001) he makes a remarkable performance as the black chef Doris Miller.

Gooding Jr. has acted in several humorous films that is the land where he performs remarkably and also in the dramatic genre such as Men of Honor which reveals his innate acting skills, even in different genres.

In May 2009, the actor traveled to Spain to preside over the jury of the III Ibiza International Film Festival, a contest dedicated to independent films and sponsored by filmmakers such as Terry Gilliam and John Hurt.

In 2015, he is part of the ABC series Forever, appearing in three episodes of the first season as Issac Monroe, a suitor for detective Jo Martínez.

He played O.J. Simpson in the series American Crime Story an anthology series based on real crimes, also played Dominic Banks in American Horror Story: Roanoke.
