Criolo Doido , abbreviated in Criolo (artistic name of Kleber Cavalcante Gomes , São Paulo, September 5, 1975) is a rapper Brazilian and singer of MPB. He started his career in 1989. He is the creator of the Rinha dos MC’s. (Battle of improvisation of MC’s). His stage name, Criolo Doido, means “crazy niche” in Brazilian Portuguese.

Criolo’s Biography

Criolo Doido is originally from the neighborhood of Grajaú, (São Paulo). It began to rape in 1989, but until the beginning of the 2000s it was practically unknown. He worked as an educator between 1994 and 2000. In 2006, he released his first studio album, entitled “Ainda Há Tempo”. Highlights are the songs “RAP é forte”, Morto Vivo, Ainda Há Tempo, Até Me Emocionei (with Bastardo, ex member of SNJ) and Chuva Acid. In that same year he founded the Rinha two MC’s existing until today. Includes freestyle battles, weekly concerts, graffiti exhibitions and photographs. The following year, he participated in the “Som Brasil Especial” in homage to Vinícius de Moraes; and was nominated for the Hutúz Award in two categories: “Grupo ou Artist Solo” (which lost to GOG) and “Revelação” (won by U-Time) .In 2008, he received the “Song of the Year” and “Personality Award” of the Year “in the fourth edition of the event” O rap é compromisso “.

The following year, he was nominated again for the Hutúz Prêmio in the “Revelations of the Decade” category, but he did not win. Both songs were announced as presents not their next album, through the launch concert held at Matilha Cultural. A few days later, the video clip of “Subirusdoistiozin” was released on the internet, with more than 6 minutes.

In 2011 he released his second album, “Nó na Orelha” (Nudo en la orja), free of charge through the internet and abbreviated his stage name to “Criolo”. On the album, the singer diversified rap rhythms with several others, such as MPB, funk, soul and blues. This album had excellent reception by critics (including foreigners), leading Criolo to participate in the program “Altas Horas” of the “Rede Globo” and to be on top of the twitter trending topics. With the album, Criolo was one of the champions of the Video Music Brazil 2011 of the MTV, in the categories “Video of the Year”, with “Subirusdoistiozin”, “Artist of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, with “Nó na Orelha “(won),” Music of the Year “with” Não existe amor en SP “(won), and as” Banda ou Artist Revelación “(won).
