Constance Elaine Trimmer Willis , better known as Connie Willis (Denver, Colorado, December 31, 1945), is an American science fiction writer. >

She started professionally as a high school teacher before devoting herself to literature, in which she began publishing stories in anthologies during the 1970s. Later, she became famous as a novelist in 1987 with Los sueños de Lincoln, winner of John W Campbell Memorial 1988. In this novel the protagonist experiences a mental link through two centuries with General Lee and shares his anxieties about the end of the Civil War.

In 1992 he published his most famous work, The Book of the Day of Final Judgment, with which he won the three most important awards of the genre: the Hugo (1993), readers’ prize, the Nebula (1992), prize of the writers of the genre, and the Locus (1993), prize of an important magazine of science fiction and fantasy. Like the previous one, this story uses time travel, this time physical, and portrays us some days of the century of the Black Death through a “field” historian of the University of Oxford. In parallel, the narrative follows the events that her mentor and the other inhabitants of Oxford suffer while she is in the past.

His career has continued successfully, as exemplified by his other two Locus prizes, awarded for his novels Transit and Not to mention the dog. The latter also earned another Hugo in the novel category. In shorter narrative categories (short novel, short story) she has also received 8 Hugos and 5 Nebulas throughout her career, which places her among the best cultivators of these short literary forms of the genre.

His work is characterized by a pleasant prose in which skillfully manages the emotion and is usually sprinkled with a fine humor. Some of her most important novels (The Dreams of Lincoln, The Book of the Day of Judgment, Not to mention the dog) and several short stories are about time travel, but the author has explored other topics such as scientific research (Sheep mansa, 1996), near-death experiences (Tránsito, 2001), the computer retouching of films (Remake, 1994), the exploration of a planet (unexplored Territory, 1994), etc. However, all of them are more used as mere scenarios, being of greater importance how they allow to introduce social reflections or to deepen in the psychology of the characters.

He has also written fantasy, for example in Spirit of Christmas he compiles several stories of this genre while declaring in his introduction his passion for Christmas and everything related to it.

Currently living in Greely, Colorado, with her husband, Courtney Willis, professor of physics at the University of Northern Colorado, and their daughter, Cordelia.
