Clara Williams (May 3, 1888 – May 8, 1928) was a film actress of American nationality, active in the silent film era. Along with Louise Glaum and Dorothy Dalton, she was one of the leading actresses of the film studios of Thomas H. Ince, one of the first to shoot feature films in Los Angeles, California. Williams starred in more than 100 productions shot between 1910 and 1918, starring in films such as The Italian and William S. Hart’s western Hell’s Hinges, films that are collected in the National Film Registry. When she married director Reginald Barker at 31 years of age, she decided to withdraw from acting.

Born in Seattle, Washington, Williams debuted on the screen with the film Western Chivalry, shot in 1910. The following year, the first issue of Motion Picture Magazine published an article and a photograph of Williams, being she of that The first actress to appear in a fan magazine The success of The Italian (1915), a film in which she played an immigrant acting with George Beban, caused her to be pigeon-holed as Latin characters.

During her time with Ince studios, Williams met director Reginald Barker, who directed her in several films, including The Man from Oregon (1915), The Criminal (1916), Three of Many (1917), Paws of the Bear (1917), The One Woman (1918), and Carmen of the Klondike (1918), his last performance. The actress married Barker in February 1920.

In 1917, Williams and several other important actors and directors of Ince’s company left the studio to join the newly formed Paralta Company. Williams’ first film with Paralta was the last shot by her, Carmen of the Klondike.

At the end of February 1928, the Los Angeles Times reported that Williams had undergone major surgery for unknown reasons at the California Lutheran Hospital, and she died on May 8, 1928, at her home in Los Angeles. She was 40 years old, she was survived by her husband and a brother. His remains were incinerated in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Glendale, California.
