Christina Onassis Livanos (Χριστίνα Ωνάση) (New York, United States, December 11, 1950 – Tortuguitas, Buenos Aires, November 19, 1988) was an entrepreneur, socialite and heiress of the Fortune Onassis, born in the United States.
Only daughter of Athina Livanos and the Greek billionaire tycoon Aristotle Onassis.
Christina Onassis, the only daughter of Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis and his first wife Athina Livanos, was born in New York City at the LeRoy sanatorium. His maternal grandfather was Stavros Livanos G., founder of the Livanos shipping empire. Christina had an older brother, Alexander and both were raised and educated in France, Greece, and England. In particular, she trained at the Headington School in Oxford and at Queen’s College in London, between 1968 and 1969.
Onassis’s parents divorced in 1960, due to his father’s relationship with opera singer Maria Callas. Later, in 1968, he married the former first lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy, widow of President John F. Kennedy. Apparently, Christina and Alexander distrusted Kennedy and never accepted her. For her part, Christina’s mother, Athina, married Stavros Niarchos in 1971.
Within 29 months, Onassis lost his entire immediate family. His brother, Alexander, died in a plane crash in Athens in 1973, a death that devastated the entire family. His mother died of a drug overdose in 1974, leaving Christina 77 million dollars in real estate. After Alexander’s death, her father’s health began to deteriorate, and she died in March 1975. After losing her father, Christina renounced her American citizenship and donated to the American Hospital in Paris the American part of her participation in the company of his father. On the contrary, he maintained dual Greek and Argentine citizenship throughout his life.
