Cary Elwes is the third child of painter Dominick Elwes and interior designer Tessa Kennedy. After finishing his studies in England he went to study acting at Sarah Lawrence College in the United States.
His first appearance in the cinema was in the movie “Yesterday’s Hero” (1979), but his first role with entity was in the film co-starring Rupert Everett “Another Country” (1984). His first leading role came with the film “Lady Jane” (1986). He obtained his most recognized role playing Westley in the movie “The Promised Princess” (1987). In 1992 he co-starred with Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, the Oscar-winning “Dracula, by Bram Stoker.” He worked under the orders of Mel Brooks in the fun “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” in (1993). In 1997 he performed in the hilarious “Liar Liar” with Jim Carrey. Elwes had a recurring role in the last season of “The X-Files” as FBI agent Brad Follmer. In 2004 he was called to do “Saw”, directed by James Wan, said film made him even more known, in 2010 he would arrive to impress in “Saw 3D” resuming his famous role of Dr. Lawrence Gordon.
In 2012 he premiered as director with the movie “Elvis & Nixon” based on the real meeting between the King of Rock and the president of the USA. UU .. Elwes also writes the film script.
Elwes married in 2000 with photographer Lisa Marie Kurbikoff, with whom she has a daughter, Dominique.
