Carolyn_Jones’s Biography

Jones began her film career in the 1950s, by the end of the decade she had achieved recognition with a nomination for an Oscar for best supporting actress for The Bachelor Party (1957) and a Golden Globe as a of the promising actresses of 1959. Her film career continued for some years, and in 1964 she began to play the role of Morticia Addams in the television series The Addams Family, receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination for her work.

When Carolyn was 3 years old her father abandoned his wife and two children. Since childhood was affected by asthma but always knew that I wanted to be an actress. In the 1940s she was accepted into an acting school in Pasadena. Later, during the 1950s Carolyn participated in several films alongside actors like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra among others.

Some of his most notorious works were in that decade, in classics such as: “The crimes of the wax museum” (The house of wax, 1953, André de Toth), along with Vincent Price; King Creole (1956), next to Elvis Presley; “The night of the husbands” (1957, Delbert Mann) between a cast of secondary formed by Don Murray and E.G. Marshall among others; “Millionaire of illusions” (1959, Frank Capra) with Sinatra, Edward G. Robinson and Eleanor Parker; “The last train to Gun Hill” (1959, John Sturgues), next to Kirk Douglas; “Empire of titans” (1960, Vincent Sherman); and was even nominated for an Oscar for her participation of 6 minutes in the movie “The bachelor party.” During that period Carolyn filmed several films that brought him fame and recognition, but it was not until 1964 when he played the character that would give him world fame: Morticia Addams, in the series The Addams Family, which only lasted 2 years on the air but was a worldwide success in the repetitions during the decade of 1970 until the present time.

Later his career began to decline, although he had some special appearances in other television series, among which the miniseries Roots in 1977 and wonder woman in 1975 in which he assumed the role of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. In 1981 he joined the cast of the telenovela Capitol (“Capitolio” in Spain), but in that year he was diagnosed with colon cancer that took his life on August 3, 1983, at 53 years of age.
