Carole Bayer Sager’s Biography

Born in New York, Sager wrote her first hit “A Groovy Kind Of Love” in 1966 while a student at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia Music School. It was recorded by the English band The Mindbenders reaching number 2 on Billboard. The song was later recorded by Sonny & amp; Cher, Petula Clark and Phil Collins, whose version for the movie Buster reached number 1 in 1988.

Sager graduated from the University of New York in English, drama and speech. His first recording as a singer was in 1977 with the album Carole Bayer Sager that included the song number 1 “You’re Moving Out Today.” The album became platinum in Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom. He then released … Too in 1978 and a third and last album co-produced by Burt Bacharach called Sometimes Late at Night in 1981 that included the hit “Stronger Than Before” which was later recorded by Dionne Warwick and Chaka Khan.

Many of her songs were co-written with her previous husband, the composer Burt Bacharach. He has also collaborated with Debbie Gibson, Marvin Hamlisch, Peter Allen, Bruce Roberts, Neil Sedaka, David Foster, Albert Hammond, Quincy Jones, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, Donald Fagen, Babyface and Clint Eastwood.

Sager has won an Oscar (six nominations), one Grammy (nine nominations), two Golden Globes (seven nominations). The Oscar Award was for the song “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” from the movie Arthur of 1981. He shared the award with Peter Allen, Burt Bacharach and Christopher Cross. The Grammy Award was for Song of the Year in 1987 for “That’s What Friends Are For” performed by Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and Elton John who reached number one.

She lives in Los Angeles, California, with her current husband Robert Daly, former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Daly is a manager of the Save The Children organization and a consultant to Tom Freston and Brad Gray at Paramount Pictures (Viacom). Sager has a son from his previous marriage called Cristopher Bacharach.
