He was born and raised in Palo Alto, California. She was the daughter of a mechanical engineer who worked at the Linear Accelerator Center at Stanford University. His interest in computer science and in particular for the design of video games began while he was in high school, when he discovered that the computer could be used to play. He enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1977, completing his studies pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science at the same university.
