Camille Muffat (Nice, France, October 28, 1989 – Villa Castelli, La Rioja, Argentina, March 9, 2015) was a French swimmer, champion at the Olympic Games in London 2012 in the modality of 400 free meters.

First years

Camille Muffat debuted with a medal at the European Short Swimming Championship in 2006 at the age of 17, earning the silver medal. A year later, in the European Short Swimming Swimming Championships in 2007 he won his first gold medal, in the modality of 200 m styles with a time of 2: 09.05, besides getting a bronze medal in the same year in the 400 m styles. In 2008 he won two more medals, in the European Short Swimming Championship in 2008 and in the European Swimming Championships in 2008. In 2009 he only participated in the 2009 Mediterranean Games, winning the gold in the 200 m styles. In 2010, after winning the silver medal at the European Swimming Championships in 2010, Muffat made the jump to the World Short Swimming Championship, winning a bronze medal and a gold medal, the latter in the 200m free.

Last years

After participating in 2011 in the 2011 World Swimming Championships in which he won two bronze medals, and in 2012, Muffat participated in his first Olympic Games. At the London 2012 Olympic Games he qualified for three events. He won the gold medal in the free 400m, achieving a new Olympic record, he also won the silver medal in the 200m free and the bronze in the 4x200m free, with a total time of 7: 47.49.

On January 1, 2013, Muffat was designated as a knight of the Legion of Honor of France On July 12, 2014, L’Équipe newspaper published in an interview that was made to Muffat, where it announced its withdrawal .


An air crash ended his life and that of nine more people when two helicopters collided in Villa Castelli, La Rioja, Argentina, on March 9, 2015. He was recording a reality show.
