Brown was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and attended St. Olaf College. After her beginnings as a singer, she changed her approach to acting after being convinced by a teacher.
Brown debuted on television in 1999 in an episode of the series Freaks and Geeks, followed by CSI appearances: Crime Scene Investigation, Smallville, Entourage, Without a Trace, The Closer, Joey and Criminal Minds. Likewise, she has starred in such films as Night of the Living Dead 3D and Timber Falls, but is best known for her participation in Virgin at 40 and Knocked Up.
In 2009 she was chosen as Lisa Niles in the telenovela General Hospital, where she participated until June 2011. In that same year she played a covert CIA informant on the Showtime Homeland series.
