Brian Keith Tochihara artistically known as Brian Tochi (May 2, 1963 in Los Angeles, United States) is an American actor, screenwriter, director and producer Japanese. He debuted in the late 1960s and 70s in several television series and commercials.

Throughout his career he became known for playing several Japanese characters such as Takashi of Revenge of the Nerds and cadet and actor Tomoko Nogata of the third and fourth films of Loca Police Academy and also for being the voice of Leonardo : The ninja turtle character

Early life

Tochi was born in Los Angeles, California and is the son of Joe Isao Tochihara, owner of a well-known hairdresser in the city and Jane Yaeko. During World War II, his parents were detained in concentration camps as prisoners of war. While Tochi was young he moved with his family to Orange County and had to combine his school studies with the film career. After graduating, he enrolled in the USC, UCLA and UCI universities.


Due to his Japanese descent, Tochi has played characters from various East Asian nationalities imitating the accent depending on the character’s country. His mother tongue is English with a decent American accent. After starting his career, he became one of the faces of East Asia best known by the audience opening at the same time, the doors to other actors in the Asian region in addition to transmitting messages that the Eastern actors have skills to appear in roles most important.

Tochi entered the world of entertainment as a child. In the beauty salon where his father worked, there were several famous faces among which were Lana Turner, Hedy Lamarr, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Petula Clark and Patty Duke. One of his clients was a representative of children’s actors with whom he signed a contract.

His first role was as guest artist in the series He & amp; She in which she played an adopted son. He also shared cast with Jack Cassidy, Kenneth Mars and Hamilton Camp between 1967 and 1968. The same year would appear in the episode of the third season of Star Trek: The Original Series: And the Children Shall Lead. Tochi’s debut as a regular actor was with the role of Yul Brynner’s eldest son and Crown Prince Chulalongkorn in the television adaptation of Anna and the King of Rodgers and Hammerstein on CBS, starring Samantha Eggar and Keye Luke. Although his trajectory in the series was brief, Tochi and Brynner continued being friends until the death of this second one in 1985. In 1972 appeared in the series the Clan Chan sharing set with a young Jodie Foster.

After the end of both series, his appearances as a guest artist continued with The Streets of San Francisco and Kung Fu, the latter with David Carradine and which encouraged him to direct the episode The Demon God being this the most protagonist had of the three in which he collaborated. Tochi also played an undercover agent in the Police Stories series on NBC and in Robert Young’s series: Marcus Welby, M.D ..

In the mid-70s, Tochi would go on stage performing his role as Crown Prince Chulalongkorn with the musical work of The King and I in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion located at the Opera Civic Center in Los Angeles. Later, he would share a poster with Ricardo Montalbán in El rey de Siam and with whom he would go on tour. When the theatrical programs ended, the two continued in contact.

Between 1977 and 1979 I would return to television with Space Academy. Working with Jonathan Harris helped him to perform better in the performances. During his break in the series, he was asked if he had time to visit the set of Space Academy to record a “Behind the Scenes”. He would later appear as a reporter on the Razzmatazz magazine on CBS and would be part of the 60 Minutes production team. At the beginning of the 80s he would participate in four seasons in the series The Rocky Horror Picture Show after replacing Barry Bostwick, who wanted to focus on other productions.

His most notable works include Wonder Woman and Hawaii Five-O, We’re Fighting Back and the telenovelas: St. Elsewhere and Santa Barbara. Later he would play several characters of Star Trek: the new generation being one of the many actors that have appeared in the first sequel and the consequent spin of. A part also made presence in The New Twilight Zone.

For a brief period of time, he shared a set with Patrick Swayze in The Renegades where he played a martial arts teacher and former leader of a street gang called Dragon. Later he would become part of the technical team of the series and produced the program Channel One News. For two and a half years, his responsibilities were in crescendo until he was director and screenwriter. Later he would become an International Correspondent.

In 2004, Tochi would write, produce and direct Tales of a Fly on the Wall, a live action series starring some friends including actors Roscoe Lee Browne, Curtis Armstrong and Leslie Easterbrook with whom he shared poster in the thirteenth and fourth film of Loca academia de policía. In 2005 he was awarded at the Film Festival’s Hollywood Screenplay Awards.
