Robert Creel Davis (Tallahassee, Florida, November 6, 1949-Los Angeles, California, September 8, 1991), better known as Brad Davis , was an American television, film and theater actor.

His parents belonged to a wealthy family, descendants of the president of the Confederate States of America, during the Civil War, Jefferson Davis. His brother Gene Davis is also an actor.

At the age of 17 he won a musical talent contest and worked for some time in a theater in Atlanta, before moving to New York City. There he enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatics Arts. He later performed in plays on Off Broadway.

He made his first role in the TV movie, Sybil (1976), by director Daniel Petrie, along with Joan Woodward and Sally Field. The following year he participated in the TV series Raíces. In 1978 he starred in the film Midnight Express, which made him jump to fame and win the Golden Globe as the New Star of the Year.

He continued to act in films until 1991. Among them, Chariots of Fire (“Carros de fuego”) and Querelle, the latter by director Rainer Fassbinder, stand out. His last appearance was a cameo in the film The Player, by director Robert Altman, where he played himself.

Sick because of AIDS, he died on September 8, 1991 in the city of Los Angeles, California. A biography written in 1997 by his widow, Susan Bluestein, affirms that Brad Davis was not homosexual and that although he consumed cocaine, he was not addicted to heroin. Other sources indicate that she was bisexual.
