Bob Mould’s Biography

Born in Malone (New York), Mold spent his childhood and youth in the metropolitan area of ​​Minneapolis-Saint Paul, where he attended Macalester College and formed the punk rock band Hüsker Dü in 1979 along with the drummer and singer Grant Hart and bassist Greg Norton. The band was released recording with the independent label SST Records After a series of relatively successful albums, such as Zen arcade (1984) and New Day Rising (1985), they jumped from the independent label SST Records to Warner Bros. Records , thus becoming one of the first “underground” bands that made the leap to a large multinational. Although Hüsker Dü obtained a moderate commercial success, but later they have been considered one of the major influences of alternative rock of the 90s.

After the breakup of the band in 1987, Mold spent a secluded time on a Minnesota farm to treat his addiction to alcohol and drugs, during which he composed the songs that would be part of his first solo album. Workbook, published in 1989, followed by Black Sheets of Rain in 1990, an album in which Mold would recover the hard sound of Hüsker Dü.

In 1992 he formed the group Sugar, along with bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis. The band successfully published two studio albums, an EP and a compilation of B-sides before splitting up in 1995.

In 1996 Mold resumed his solo career with the publication of a self-titled album, published by Rykodisc, which ranked 101st on the Billboard 200 list in the United States and 52nd on the British album charts. He published The Last Dog and Pony Show, ranking 164th on the North American charts and 58th for the British charts.

From the late 90’s he developed influences of dance and electronic music, which were noted in his albums Modulate of 2002 and Body of Song of 2005. In between he came to publish another album, Long Playing Grooves, under the pseudonym LoudBomb (an anagram of his name).
