Billie Dove (May 14, 1903 – December 31, 1997) was a film actress of American nationality, active during the silent film era.
Her real name was Bertha Bohny , and she was born in New York, with her parents Charles Bohny and Bertha Kagl, Swiss immigrants. In her teens she worked as a model to help support her family, being hired by Florenz Ziegfeld to act in her Ziegfeld Follies. In the early 1920s he changed his name legally to Lillian Bohny , moving to Hollywood, where he began acting in silent films. Soon she became one of the most popular actresses of the decade, working with Douglas Fairbanks in the film Technicolor The Black Pirate (1926), and playing Rodeo West in The Painted Angel (1929), being called The American Beauty, in reference to the title of one of his films, American Beauty (1927).
Dove married the director of his seventh film, Irvin Willat, in 1923, divorcing in 1929. In addition to his married life, Dove had a three-year affair with Howard Hughes, although the relationship ended before they reached get marry. Hughes chose her to act in two films produced by him, Cock of the Air (1932) and The Age for Love (1931).
After filming Blondie of the Follies (1932), Dove retired from the cinema to dedicate herself to the family, even though she was still a popular actress. In 1933 he married oil entrepreneur Robert Kenaston, lasting 37 years, until his death in 1970; They had a son and an adopted daughter. Later she had a brief third marriage with an architect, John Miller, which ended in divorce in the 1970s.
