Bill Kaulitz (Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, September 1, 1989) is a German singer, songwriter, voice actor and model known for being the vocalist of the German band Tokio Hotel.

Bill Kaulitz’s Biography

First years (1989-1999)

Bill Kaulitz was born on September 1, 1989 at 06:30 in Leipzig, Germany. He has a twin brother, Tom Kaulitz, who is 10 minutes older (6:20). His parents, Jörg Wieger and Simone Kaulitz, separated when he and his brother were 7 years old. Simone married Gordon Trümper, guitarist of the German band Fantun, on August 1, 2009 after 12 years of relationship.

Bill Kaulitz showed interest in music when he was 7 years old and started composing his own songs. His brother Tom, learned to play the guitar thanks to his stepfather Gordon Trümper, who helped them start their own band.

Musical career (1999-2003)

At the age of 10, the brothers began playing live in Magdeburg, near their hometown of Loitsche, doing shows in small places and were largely unknown.

In the year they turned 12, they met Georg Listing (then 14) and Gustav Schäfer (then 13), in the audience of one of their shows. Gustav Schäfer and Georg Listing were friends and after the show they made an offer to the twins to join. Then, Devilish would have been born. Devilish was not going anywhere, until Bill Kaulitz showed up on the Star Search TV reality show in Germany, thanks to a lost bet against his brother. The group, founded in 2001, changed its name to Tokio Hotel after joining Sony in 2003.

First releases (2005-2006)

In 2005, David Jost organized a meeting between the band and records of Universal Music Group and Interscope and they signed. They started working immediately, releasing their debut LP Schrei later that year. His first single from Schrei was Durch den Monsun, which reached number 1 in Germany after a month of its release.

First tour and successes

Tokio Hotel launched its debut tour in Germany, to support the release of Schrei and his singles. They toured Germany and also recorded a live DVD. In 2006, Bill Kaulitz expressed the role of Arthur in the first part of the German version of the film Arthur and the Minimoys. Tokio Hotel was a well-known name in Germany at that time, and that forced the band to return to the studio. After the success of Schrei, Tokio Hotel began to work on their second album, Zimmer 483, published in February 2007. The album generated three singles initially: Übers Ende der Welt, Spring Nicht and An deiner Seite (Ich bin da). A fourth single, Heilig was released in 2008.

To support the launch of Zimmer 483, Tokio Hotel began a continental tour of Europe, generating another live DVD and a large advertising boost.

International Fame (2007-2008)

With so many fans around the world, Bill Kaulitz and his band decided to re-record the Schrei and Zimmer 483 songs but this time in English so that all fans could understand the lyrics of the band. The result of these re-recorded songs was the debut of Tokio Hotel with the album Scream in English. The album was released in mid-2007.

Scream had four singles: Scream (Schrei version), Monsoon (Durch den Monsun version), Do not Jump (Spring Nicht version) and Ready, Set, Go! (version of Übers Ende der Welt). Scream was moderately successful internationally, and to support the launch, Tokio Hotel left Europe for the first time and flew to the United States.

In 2008, Tokio Hotel arrived in the United States to do 5 shows, starting in Canada and ending in New York. Tokio Hotel was the first German group since Nena to succeed internationally and maintain its status. The tour of the United States was a success, but when they arrived in Europe for their 1000 Hotels Tour they were hit by the disaster.

1000 Hotels Tour and medical complications (2008-2009)

1000 Hotels Tour started in Brussels on March 3, 2008, continued through the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Eleven days after the beginning of the tour, on March 14, Bill Kaulitz began to experience voice problems in the middle of a concert in Marseille, France. He let the audience sing more often and the band only played sixteen songs instead of the blackjack planned.

Two days after the incident in France, Tokio Hotel canceled a concert in Lisbon just before it was to begin. The members of the band, with the exception of Bill, took the stage and apologized for canceling the concert. They explained that Bill Kaulitz was ill and was being taken back to Germany to see a specialist, because he had recorded and sung 43 songs without rest and had developed a pathology in his throat. It turned out to be a cyst in the larynx, which had to be removed by surgery on March 30. Bill Kaulitz could not speak for 10 days afterwards and had to undergo speech therapy for a month. It was a tough time for the leader of Tokio Hotel, who doubted if he could ever sing again as before.

In May 2008, Bill had fully recovered and they were able to return to the stage of the remaining countries to finish the tour. Despite surgery and time removed, it was considered a success.

Humanoid (2009-2010)

During 2008 and 2009, Tokio Hotel returned to the studio to record their second album in English and the third in German. The result was Humanoid, which was a much more techno-oriented version with a new sound. Humanoid was released on October 6, 2009, and a little less than a month later, Tokio Hotel picked up the award at the EMA for Best Band in Berlin on November 5. Humanoid so far has resulted in three singles, Automatic / Automatisch, published in September 2009, World Behind My Wall / Lass uns Laufen that was published in January 2010 and Dark Side Of The Sun / Sonnenstystem.

Kings of Suburbia (2014)

On October 3, 2014, the band released the album that would break with a silence of 5 years. Kings of suburbia was only released in English (not like their previous works, in English and German). The singles were, in order, Run, run, run, Girl got a gun, both promotional, and Love who loves you back along with Feel it all being the official singles. The album reached number one in 30 countries and entered the top 5 in 17 other countries, being considered a success despite the time elapsed, in which the twins moved to Los Angeles to escape the German media landscape.

Dream Machine (2016-2017)

On September 1, 2016, the band released an instagram publication, where the band would confirm a tour in early 2017 to promote their Dream Machine album. Which has songs like Something new, What if, both promotional, and Boy do not cry, the latter came out on October 20, 2017. The songs on the album are all on your official YouTube account.
