He appeared on Raekwon albums, The Beatnuts (1997 – the song , “Off the Books”) and Fat Joe, finally signing with Loud Records. He struggled throughout his life with weight problems until on February 7, 2000, he suffered a heart attack and died weighing 317 kilograms.

The followers of Pun praised their complex combinations of rhymes, their sublime play on words, the skill with which they maintained the rhythm and their implacable flow, without ever losing their breath despite their enormous weight.

Big Pun’s Biography

Born into a community of Latinos in the Bronx, during his early years in the hip hop world, Christopher Rios practiced basketball, boxing and other sports. He met his now widowed wife Liza. At the age of 5, he broke his leg in the Municipal Park in Manhattan. 10 years later, at 15, Pun dropped out of school at Stevenson High School. Rios began writing for his raps during the 80’s’ to the point of forming Full A Clips Crew with Triple Six, Cuban Link and Prospect. After associating in 1995 with the also native of Puerto Rico and the Bronx Fat Joe, in 1995, Pun made his commercial debut in Jealous Ones Envy (J.O.E.), the theme of Fat Joe’s second album.

Then he released “I’m Not a Player” (sample of O’Jays) that triumphed in the underground world. The remix, “Still Not a Player” (with Joe), was the biggest commercial success of the Latin rapper. His debut, Capital Punishment (1998) was the first album by a Latin rapper to be a platinum record. After this success, he joined “Terror Squad”, a group of Latin rappers from New York founded by Fat Joe, who constantly worried about the weight of Big Pun.wanted Pun to lose weight. He went to North Carolina and lost

Pun suffered from overweight problems throughout his adult life, and his weight ranged from obesity to morbid obesity during the early 1990s. Pun then tried to enroll in a program to lose weight in North Carolina, where he lost 80 pounds ( 36 kg), but on his return to New York he regained the weight he lost.

On February 7, 2000, Pun suffered respiratory failure and a fatal heart attack while temporarily staying with his family at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, New York. Pun was pronounced dead at the hospital after the nurses failed to revive him. Big Pun got his maximum weight at the time of his death: 698 pounds (317 kg). He was cremated days later.

His second album, Yeeeah Baby, was released shortly after his death in March 2000. A second posthumous album, third in his career, Endangered Species, was published in 2001, a collection of great hits with new material, collaborations and part of his best remixed views. In 2006, Sony announced the release of a third posthumous album, with unreleased tracks, but it keeps delaying it.
