Bertram Stern (Brooklyn, October 3, 1929 – Manhattan, June 26, 2013) was an American photographer who excelled in his work on fashion and portraits of celebrities. p>

He was born on October 3, 1929 in Brooklyn. At eighteen he started working at a Wall Street bank, but soon left to work as art assistant to director Herschel Bramson. In 1951 he entered as an artistic director in Mayfair magazine and soon began his collaboration with magazines such as Vogue, Squire, Look, Life, Glamor and Holiday. Among his works of that time is a portrait of Louis Armstrong from 1959 made for a Polaroid advertising campaign that was even considered too high quality for the same.In the early seventies he closed his studio and moved to live Spain until 1976. After his return to New York he dedicated himself to make advertising photography and collaborations in magazines.

His best-known work is The Last Sitting, which is a collection of 2,571 photographs taken of Marilyn Monroe in 1962 at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles, six months before his death. and part of it was published in Vogue. The first edition of the book The Last Sitting was made in 1982 and in the same Stern tells the encounter in detail.In 2008 with almost eighty years of age Stern replied the photographic report having as model Lindsay Lohan.

Among the famous women he has photographed are Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Drew Barrymore, Shirley MacLaine, Claudia Cardinale, Jacqueline Bisset, Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve.

He also worked for the film industry: Lolita in 1962, Appointment with a very special angel in 1987 or in American masters in 2006; as a director and producer in Jazz on a Summer’s Day (along with Aram Avakian) in 1958 or as a protagonist in Becoming Bert Stern in 2009.

He died at his Manhattan residence on June 26, 2013, at the age of 83 years without the causes of his death having been clarified.
