Bernard Cornwell Short Bio

Bernard Cornwell , OBE (London, February 23, 1944) is an English novelist and journalist. At a very young age he lost his parents: a soldier of the Royal Canadian Air Force and a recruit of the British Female Auxiliary Corps. The surname Cornwell is that of his mother. Adopted by the members of a strict Protestant sect, Cornwell attended various studies and became employed as a teacher after passing through the University. After working for the BBC, he moved to the United States where he began the historical sagas for which he has become famous. According to Cornwell, the decision to write comes from a strictly economic need: by not having a resident card, only intellectual activity was allowed to earn a living within the law.

In June 2006 he was named officer of the Order of the British Empire on the collective list in honor of the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

In Spain his novels have been published by Edhasa and Quinteto. His main sagas are those dedicated to the rifleman Richard Sharpe at the time of the conquest of India by the British Empire and the Napoleonic Wars. Edited under the heading “The saber and the rifle”, the saga was adapted for television by the BBC with Sean Bean as protagonist.

There are three other Cornwell series published in Spanish. They are dedicated to the Arthurian legends (composed by The King of Winter, The Enemy of God and Excalibur); the archer Thomas de Hookton (Archers of the King, The Battle of the Grail, The Siege of Calais and 1356); and finally, the set in the Viking invasions of Great Britain during the reign of Alfred the Great (so far, Northumbria, the last kingdom, Svein, the white horse, The Lords of the North, The Song of the sword, The Earth in flames, Death of Kings, Uhtred, the pagan and The vacant throne).

His novels Stonehenge and The thief of the gallows have also been published in Spanish. There would be at least 6 other unpublished novels.

In addition, in 2011 they published the first of his books in the Nathaniel Starbuck saga, called in Spanish Rebelde.
