Benjamin Kowalewicz’s Biography
Kowalewicz, of Polish descent, was born on December 16, 1975 in Montreal, Quebec. He grew up in Streetsville, Ontario, but currently lives in Toronto. He attended classes at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Secondary School, where he was a drummer for a band called “To Each His Own” with Jonathan Gallant. When Aaron Solowoniuk was recruited to play the drums, Ben stopped being a drummer and became the band’s vocalist and rhythm guitarist. The three later met Ian D’Sa to form a band called Pezz in 1993. Pezz released his first album Watoosh! in 1998, but they soon had to change name when being denounced by an American band that was already called like that. Ben proposed Billy Talent for a character in the Michael Turner movie Hard Core Logo. Kowalewicz focused only on being a vocalist and that’s how Billy Talent was born. At that time, Ben worked on Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge as an assistant to The Ongoing History of New Music with host Alan Cross to contribute to the funds of Billy Talent’s first album, in 2010 he performed the song nothing to lose for the Polish film of drama room samobójców. .

He also participated in the song “Wake Up The Town” of Anti-Flag in the album released in 2008 The Bright Lights of America, as well as in the video of the band Goldfinger “Superman”. In a concert of the group Rise Against in Neuhausen, Germany, Ben appeared at the peak of the song “Prayer of the Refugee” from the album The Sufferer & amp; The Witness singing the chorus “Do not hold me up now,can stand my own ground,do not need your help now, You will let me down, down, down!”.
His house in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto was featured in the Canadian Designer Guys decoration program. This episode is titled “Punk Meets Traditional”. Kowalewicz has also played guitar and drums, and wrote the score for drums of “The Ex”, a song from his self-titled album Billy Talent .
