Benjamin Abraham Horowitz , known as Ben Horowitz (June 13, 1966, in London, England) is an American entrepreneur and investor, as well as a blogger and writer. He was the co-founder and CEO of the software company Opsware, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in July 2007. He is currently the co-founder and general partner, along with Marc Andreessen, of the venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz. He has a blog titled a16z, read by more than ten million people, where he writes about his experiences as an investor and CEO, is a contributor to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New Yorker, Fortune, Economist, and other media. Horowitz is the author of The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers, published in Spain by the publisher Libros de Cabecera with the title Entrepreneurship and leading a startup: The hard road to success.

Ben Horowitz’s Biography

Horowitz grew up with his parents in Berkeley, California. His father, David Horowitz, is a conservative American writer. In 1988, Horowitz earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Columbia University and later a master’s degree in computer science from the University of California.

After studying, he began his professional career as an engineer at Silicon Graphics in 1990. In 1995, Horowitz joined Marc Andreessen (inventor of Mosaic) at Netscape as a project manager, because of the strong presence in the market. from Microsoft, they decided to sell Netscape to America Online (AOL). After Netscape was acquired by AOL in 1998, he served as vice president for AOL’s e-commerce platform.

In September 1999, Horowitz co-founded Loudcloud with Marc Andreessen, Tim Howes and In Sik Rhee. Loudcloud offered infrastructure and Web-Hosting services to clients and Internet companies such as Ford Motor Company, Nike, Gannett Company, the United States Navy and other large organizations. In 2002, Horowitz carried out the transformation from Loudcloud to Opsware by selling the company to “Electronic Data Systems (EDS)”. As CEO of Opsware he generated 550 jobs and reached 100 million dollars in annual revenue. In July 2007, he sold Opsware to Hewlett-Packard for $ 1.6 billion.

After the sale of Opsware, he worked as general manager at HP Software, directing 3,000 employees and generating annual revenues of 2.8 billion dollars.
