Barbra Streisand (born Brooklyn, New York, April 24, 1942) is an American actress, singer, songwriter, producer and director. Throughout her long career of more than six decades, her achievements in music, film and theater have made her an icon of American culture.

After a successful career as a singer during the sixties, she made her film debut with great splendor in the musical Funny Girl of 1968, which established her as a successful performer and which awarded her with her first Oscar as best actress. He consolidated his film career with subsequent films Hello, Dolly! of 1969, The Way We Were of 1973 and A Star Is Born of 1976; This last one that awarded her with a second Oscar as a composer, being the first woman to do so.She debuted as director with Yentl in 1983, the first film of great importance in being directed, produced, written and starred by a woman. the successful films The Prince of the Tides of 1991 and The Love has two sides of 1996.

She was born on April 24, 1942 as Barbara Joan Streisand, in a Jewish family in Williamsburg, New York. Her father, Emanuel Streisand, professor of grammar and literature, died of a brain hemorrhage when she was only 15 months old. He has an older brother, Sheldon, a real estate agent and a half sister, Roslyn Kind (also a singer), the result of the second marriage of his mother, Diana, who was a secretary in a school and who never supported her daughter’s dream of dedicating herself to the world. He studied at the Beis Yakov College and the Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn where he graduated fourth in the class of 1959 There he sang at the chorus with Neil Diamond. She was also a companion and friend of what would later become world chess champion Bobby Fischer and has a son named Jason Gould
