Arvydas Romas Sabonis (Kaunas, RSS of Lithuania, Soviet Union, 19 December 1964) is a former Lithuanian basketball player. With a height of 2.21 m (7 ft 3 in), it is considered one of the best center in the world from the eighties of the twentieth century until the beginning of the twenty-first century. Since 2011 he is part of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Arvydas Sabonis’s Biography

In September 2011 he suffered a heart attack while practicing sports. He was transferred to a hospital in Kaunas and recovered successfully.

His wife, Ingrida Mikelionyte Saboniene, was the winner of the first Lithuanian beauty contest “The Beauty of Vilnius ’88”. They have three sons who currently play basketball: Žygimantas Sabonis (born in 1991), Tautvydas Sabonis (born in 1992) and Domantas Sabonis (born in 1996), and a daughter, Aušrinė. Domantas currently plays for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA. All were trained in the quarry of CB Málaga.

Sabonis speaks five languages: Lithuanian, Russian, Spanish, English and Polish.
