Arms trafficking and espionage for Israel
After the 1985 indictment of Richard Kelly Smyth, an aerospace industry executive who had illegally sent nuclear triggers through one of Milchan’s companies, he began to speculate about Milchan’s involvement in espionage activities and arms trafficking. The conjectures came out of the state of rumor with the publication in 2011, by the biographers Meir Doron and Joseph Gelman, of Confidential – The Life Of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon, in which they argue that “at least during the middle of the 1980s He exercised in all dimensions as agent of the intelligence agency ulstrasecreta of Israel Lakam. Its activities included “the purchase of construction parts and maintenance of Israel’s nuclear arsenal” and the supervision of “government-backed accounts and companies that financed the particular needs of Israel’s intelligence operations as a whole abroad”. In an interview about Milchan’s intelligence activities, Israeli President Shimon Peres declared:
Arnon is a special man. I was the one who recruited him … When I was in the Ministry of Defense, Arnon was involved in a large number of contracting activities related to defense and intelligence operations. Its strong point is the realization of connections at the highest levels … Its activities gave us an immense advantage in the strategic, the diplomatic and the technological.
In November 2013, Milchan himself admitted to the Israeli documentary Uvda that he had carried out clandestine arms trading business for the Israeli government throughout the 1970s.
