Anni Frid Lyngstad’s Biography

Childhood

Anni-Frid was born in Bjørkåsen (Ballangen), near Narvik (Norway), five months after the end of World War II, as a result of a relationship between Synni, a young Norwegian woman, and a married German sergeant, Alfred Haase. . Anni-Frid always believed that her father had died when her ship back to Germany sank during the war. After a German magazine published the story of its origin in 1977, Anni-Frid discovered that his father had not died and could meet him in person at a meeting organized by his then-fiancé, Benny Andersson.

At the end of World War II, his mother and grandmother had sought refuge in Sweden for fear of reprisals from the Norwegian population, whose government put many of the children born to German parents in mental institutions or sent them to Foreign. Synni died before Anni-Frid was two years old, so Anni-Frid was raised by her grandmother Arntine in Torshälla.

Since she was very young, she showed her singing skills, because when she first entered school in 1952, everyone was impressed by her voice. Her teacher took her out every Friday to sing in front of the class. But when it was not about singing, Frida was very shy “I remember being a very sweet and very shy girl, every Saturday I went to the library and came home with a huge pile of books.” They were quite poor, because Arntine worked as a seamstress and did not get much money, but she still managed to buy a piano in installments. She was also the one who wove the clothes, usually woolen sweaters and pleated plaid skirts.

Beginnings

He made his debut at age 11, in a performance for the benefit of the Red Cross. A year later, he went to speak in person with the director of the Evald Ek Orkesta to ask him to be the vocalist of his band. Evald himself admitted, “It was hard to believe how such a young person could sing so well, and he had great versatility on stage, he had no shame to sing”.

So, Anni-Frid got her first job as a jazz singer at thirteen. Later, at the age of 16, he formed his own group and in 1963 he married Ragnar Fredriksson, one of the members, at the age of eighteen. He had two children with him, Hans (born January 26, 1963) and Ann Lise-Lotte (February 25, 1967) before divorcing. He got a divorce on May 19, 1970, the same day his grandmother Arntine died at age 71.

Win the umpteenth contest during the summer, which ensures a place in the national contest New Faces in 1967, which wins with the song «En ledig dag». The presenter of the Lasse Holmqvist contest was the one who announced to him that as part of the prize he was going to appear that night on the Hylands Höger-Hörna program on national television, presented by the popular Lennart Hyland, who had a long-lasting special that night. It was September 3, 1967, the night in which the Swedes went from driving on the left to doing it on the right, to adapt to international standards, so the Swedish authorities preferred to have the population stuck to television. /p>

Frida’s performance was seen throughout Sweden, which earned her a contract with EMI Sweden and the publication of her first album En ledig dag.

Little by little she began to be known throughout the country, which led her to move to Stockholm due to the numerous galas and trips abroad, such as her visits to Japan or Venezuela.

His first major release was a compilation of new singers edited by EMI, which included “Mycket kär” and “När du blir min”. He also participated in a disc of Disney songs, where he played “Whistling to work” of Snow White and the seven dwarfs. ABBA

He recorded his first album in 1971, produced by Benny Andersson, creating the base of ABBA. From 1972, and for a decade, his main activity was linked to this group although he released the solo album in Swedish Frida ensam (Frida solo) in 1975. He married Benny Andersson, with whom he already lived some years ago. , on October 6, 1978, divorcing him only three years later, in 1981. The ABBA group would dissolve one year later. In February of 1982, Frida began recording her first album in English (Something’s Going On) produced by Phil Collins from where the song was released, “I Know There’s Something Going On”; This song is considered the hit of the singer. He was followed in 1984 by the album Shine, produced by Steve Lillywhite. From there, there would be two major themes, “Shine” and “Slowly”; the latter was re-recorded by the Mexican group Timbiriche. Then Frida retired from public life for several years.

Royalty

In 1992, Frida married Prince Heinrich Ruzo Reuss von Plauen (May 24, 1950-29 October 1999), who died of lymphatic cancer in 1999. A year earlier, in 1998, the daughter who had had Frida in her first marriage, Ann Lise-Lotte Casper (February 25, 1967 – January 13, 1998) died in a car accident in the United States, where she lived. Anni-Frid’s marriage to the prince conferred him the right to be His Serene Highness Princess Anni-Frid Reuss, Countess of Plauen , and it opened the doors of the Swedish Royal Court, given that his husband was childhood friend of King Carl XVI Gustaf.

At the beginning of the 1990s, he devoted most of his time to environmental problems, although in 1996 a new solo album appeared in Swedish, Djupa andetag (Deep Sighs).

Currently, Princess Reuss von Plauen resides in Zermatt, Switzerland, and is engaged in charitable works, especially with drug prevention and environmental issues. She has been seen lately in the premieres of the musical Mamma Mia! in the company of another member of ABBA, Björn Ulvaeus.
