Anne Shirley (April 17, 1918 – July 4, 1993) was an American film actress.
Her real name was Dawn Evelyeen Paris , and she was born in New York City. At the age of five, she began a successful career as a child actress under the name of Dawn O’Day , performing in movies from the pre-Hays era such as Liliom (1930), Riders of the Purple Sage (with Tom Mix), So Big !, Three on a Match and Rasputin and the Empress.
In 1934 the actress played Anne Shirley, a character in the film Anne of Green Gables, based on the work Ana de las Tejas Verdes, and thereafter adopted as her own artistic name the character of that character.
Already with his new name, he got a fruitful career acting in cast roles. Among her films is Stella Dallas (1937), for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Among the many films in which he participated, Steamboat ‘Round the Bend, Make Way for a Lady, Vigil in the Night, Anne of Windy Poplars, The Devil and Daniel Webster and Murder, My Sweet, his last film stand out .
In 1944 he decided to retire, fixing his home in Los Angeles, California.
Her first husband was actor John Payne, with whom he had Julie Ann Payne, also an actress. His second marriage was with Adrian Scott, and the third with Charles Lederer, nephew of actress Marion Davies. The result of his last marriage was born a son, Daniel Lederer.
Anne Shirley died of lung cancer in Los Angeles in 1993. She was 75 years old. His remains were incinerated, and the ashes were given to his relatives.
For his contribution to the film industry he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 7020 Hollywood Boulevard.
