Amaya Uranga (Bilbao, February 18, 1947), also known simply as Amaya , is a Spanish singer who is part of the vocal group El Consorcio (1993 to the present), in addition to having been a member of Mocedades (1967 – 1984) and developing a brief solo career.

María Icíar Amaya Uranga Amézaga is the oldest of nine children in a large family with a great musical interest, since her parents were singers and most of her siblings are also singers or they have been: Roberto, Izaskun, Idoia, Edurne, Estíbaliz and Iñaki Uranga have been Amaya’s companions in some of the formations of which he has been part. She is also a cousin of the film director Pablo Berger.

His first steps in music began when he formed, together with his sisters Izaskun and Estíbaliz, the vocal trio Las hermanas Uranga , in which he sang and played the guitar.

In 1968, he studied, worked, taught English and met with family and friends for the rehearsals of Voices and guitars that later became Mocedades, being the main soloist voice of this group for 16 years.

His precious voice made famous some songs in the authorship of Juan Carlos Calderón, such as: “Are you”, “Take me or leave me”, “The seller” and others. He participated with Mocedades in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 performing the song “Eres tú”, getting the second position and being a great success in many countries.

In 1984 he left that group, starting his solo career with the album Volver (1986), in which he performed “Palabras de Amor” (Castilian version of “Paraules d’amor”) with Joan Manuel Serrat. His second material, On the beat of the city had a theme by Joaquín Sabina and the third, Seguimos juntos, was produced by Armando Manzanero, with whom he made a duet in “After talking to you”.

Lilura Urdinak, is his last solo material and is recorded entirely in Vasco. He has sung along with some of the most important names in the international music scene, such as Plácido Domingo, Alfredo Kraus, Pablo Milanés and Armando Manzanero. Besides being a singer, she has a reputation as an excellent cook.

In 1993, in order to record an album proposed by Rosa León, she joined her brothers Estíbaliz and Iñaki and Sergio Blanco Rivas and Carlos Zubiaga, all former members of Mocedades, although Iñaki Uranga never coincided with her in Youth After recording the album of songs from the 40s and 50s they decided to stay together to form the vocal group El Consorcio, a formation that was until its dissolution in 2016 due to the death in February 2015 of Sergio Blanco Rivas.
