Aleksandr Mikhailovich Ovechkin , also known as Alexander Ovechkin (in Russian, Александр Михайлович Овечкин, born on September 17, 1985) is a professional ice hockey player who plays as a left winger for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League.

Dinamo Moscow
Oveckin was born in the USSR in 1985, and is the son of the basketball player and champion of two Olympic gold medals in 1976 and 1980, Tatiana Ovéchkina. He showed interest in ice hockey since he was a child and started playing with 7 years old.
Later he joined the hockey section system of Dinamo Moscow, debuting as a professional with 16 years in the 2001-02 season of the Russian League. In 2004 he won the league award for the best left winger and became the youngest player in Dynamo’s history to lead the team’s score.
In addition to his achievements at Dinamo, he won two gold medals at the World Championships in 2002 and 2003 with the Russian youth hockey team.
Washington Capitals
Ovechkin was the first pick of the draft in 2004, going to the Washington Capitals. A year before and tried to hire the Florida Panthers, but the player was not over the age of two days. In 2008 Ovechkin signed a renewal contract with his team considered the highest value in the history of the NHL, worth 124 million dollars and in which he would earn 9.5 million per year. In the 2007-08 season he scored 60 goals in one season and finished the season as leader in points (112) and goals (65), which earned him the Art Ross Trophy and the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy. He also managed to put his team in the playoff, where they fell in the quarterfinals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ovechkin received the Hart Memorial Trophy as best player of the year in the NHL as well as appearing on the team of the championship stars for the third year in a row, and was decorated by the mayor of Washington DC, Adrian Fenty, with the key to the city. With the Russian team he achieved the world championship in the 2008 World Hockey Championships.
