Álex Anwandter Donoso (Santiago, March 24, 1983) is a Chilean singer-songwriter, musician, producer and producer. He achieved popularity as the vocalist of the band Teleradio Donoso until 2010, when he began his solo work.

Beginnings

The story of Alex Anwandter’s family goes back to the German Carlos Anwandter, who emigrated to Chile in 1850 and became one of the leaders of the German colonization in Valdivia. Alex’s father, Paul Anwandter, lived a great part of his life in Brazil before moving to Chile at the age of 26, where he formed his family.

During his childhood, Álex had violin lessons, while his main musical influence was Michael Jackson. He completed his primary studies at Santiago College and later went on to study psychology, a career that he left shortly after. He also went through the Modern School of Music, but did not show much interest in the theory of musical creation.

Donoso Teleradio

In 2005 he formed the band Teleradio Donoso, along with Martín del Real and Juan Pablo Wasaff, whom he had known some time before. In 2007 the group releases its first album to the market and little by little they begin to make a name in the Chilean music scene, receiving good reviews of the local environment.

As leader of the band, Anwandter was in charge of the voice and one of the guitars, as well as the composition, mixing, production and mastering of the music, as well as directing the music videos for the group. As part of Teleradio Donoso, Anwandter was integrated into the Chilean musical environment and participated with several artists, eventually producing music for others, such as with Fother Muckers. In 2009, due to stress and general fatigue on the part of Álex in relation to the music and the way of life that he was leading, Teleradio Donoso came to an end as a group, holding a final concert at the Teatro Oriente.

Odyssey

Before the official separation of Teleradio Donoso, Anwandter started a new solo musical project, using several previously written themes and a style significantly different from that by which he was previously known. The Odyssey project, as he named it, put aside the guitars and gave relevance to synthesizers and more danceable music.

The album, also called Odyssey, is finally released in August 2010 with “Cabros” as its first promotional single. The musical video of “Cabros”, directed by himself, won the prize for the best video in the Festival of the Videoclip organized by Suena.cl and the School of Communications of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Rebels

In September 2011, Álex Anwandter released a new single entitled “Tattoo”, this time abandoning the pseudonyms and using his real name.On October 26, Anwandter published Rebeldes, his second solo album and first released without pseudonyms The album, produced in conjunction with Cristián Heyne, was published online through its website and SoundCloud.

After the attack and subsequent death of Daniel Zamudio, Anwandter publicly expressed his shock and affirmed that the deceased young man was one of his fans, with whom he even had contact through the internet.In his presentation at Lollapalooza Chile on 1 April, Andwandter dedicated two of his songs to the deceased young man, Rebeldes’ second single was “How can you live with yourself”; his music video, inspired by Paris is Burning, a documentary about Queer culture in New York, caught the attention of international media, where they considered Anwandter as a spokesperson for homosexual rights in Chile.

At the end of 2012, Anwandter started working on a musical project together with Gepe, which they called “Álex & Daniel”. In November of that year, they released their first single, “Mundo Real”, on the internet, and they released an LP with 8 songs virtually on February 25, 2013.

Other projects

In mid-2014, Anwandter began developing his first feature film, called Never You’ll Be Alone and which was inspired by the story of Daniel Zamudio.The work was presented at the Guadalajara Film Festival in August 2015, where he won two awards.

During 2015, Anwandter served as co-coach on Nicole’s team in the first season of Channel 13’s The Voice Chile program. That same year he began to develop his first feature film,

On January 19, 2016, he published the teaser of “Siempre es viernes en mi corazón”, the first single from the album Amiga, and which features Ale Sergi and Juliana Gattas from the Argentine band Miranda !. The album was published in April 2016.
