Adam Harasiewicz (Chodzież, Poland, July 1, 1932) is a Polish classical pianist.

Adam Harasiewicz’s Biography

He started playing the piano at age 10, he continued at the State Music School in Rzeszów. Completing with honors his studies at the Academy of Music in Krakow. Then he studied with Professor Zbigniew Drzewiecki.

In 1947 he won the first prize in the Young Talent Competition in Rzeszow.

He won the first prize in the Frédéric Chopin International Piano Competition in 1955, a significant event, taking into account the names of the other pianists who participated, among them Ashkenazy and Ts’ong Fou. Two years later he obtained the Medal of the Harriet Cohen Foundation of London.

Since the beginning of his career he was connected with Chopin, comparing him with other great performers like Argerich, Cortot, Rubinstein and Zimerman, While he has performed works by many other composers, especially Brahms and Szymanowski, has developed the reputation as a specialist in Chopin, situation that may have limited his career, but who was instrumental in the cultivation of his music, this being a sample of his great interpretative attributes.

In 1960 he gave the inaugural concert at the UN to commemorate the Chopin year for the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

From 1958 to 1974 he recorded all of Chopin’s works for the Philips label.

Harasiewicz has been a member of the jury in several international competitions, among them Bolzano (1984), Zaragoza (1987), Terni (1989) and most importantly, at the Frédéric Chopin International Piano Competition in 1995 and 2010. < / p>

Although Harasiewicz remained active after 1970, his record career was largely before this date, his name disappearing from the undercard. However, his reputation was revived with the reissue of many of his recordings. Among the most popular and successful are the nocturnes and preludes in the Philips Duo collection.
